Give your children the opportunity to connect with their true selves and expand their senses in nature. Join us at varied locations in North Boulder County.

Our Focus is on Fun!

Way of the Wild runs educational programs on survival skills. All programs are geared toward teaching one thing: survival skills. FISHING WEEK (A FAN FAVORITE!) (1 week) 6 years old and up. Spend a week learning fishing equipment basics and fishing in varied waters. (5 year olds considered on a case by case basis.) 

 

FORGING PROGRAM (2 weeks) (10 years old and up)
Hand forge a simple working metal knife. Limited enrollment (6 students only).

CANOEING PROGRAM (1 week) 8 years old and up
July is hot! Enjoy five days of canoe trips on the St.Vrain River with Way of the Wild and the River’s Path, a professional guide service! Find yourself out in the wild on a regional river this summer. Travel a different section of the river every day. Enjoy the amazing wildlife views. Learn canoeing skills. Swim, float, and discover these waters! Cool off from the summer heat!

AIR SOFT GAMES PROGRAM (1 week) 11 years old and up
This is a scout camp that uses Airsoft to further engage the kids in developing awareness skills. Airsoft is a scout game employing toy guns. Learn listening skills, stalking skills, teamwork, improve intuitive and physical awareness. You must provide your own equipment.

BOW MAKERS PROGRAM (1 week) 9 years old AND UP
Learn how to make a real wooden long bow. (Younger children considered on a case by case basis.) Limited enrollment (8 students).

CAPTURE THE FLAG SCOUT PROGRAM (1 week) 8 years old and up.
Full on, hard core Capture the Flag all week long for girls and boys. Improve your stealth and scout skills. 

INTUITIVE SCOUT ARCHERY PROGRAM (5 weeks of opportunities!) 6 years old and up
Connect with nature/self/other playing archery, survival skills, swimming, fishing, fire making, scout games! Play, relax, hang out with friends! (5 year olds considered on a case by case basis.) 

LAST WEEK OF SUMMER

SPECIAL TOPICS
Way of the Wild is preparing to offer a course on forging, a special topics program by permission, this summer. This class will be small (1 to 4 students) Stay tuned for dates. We hope to offer older students this opportunity to forge a basic and primitive knife blade
formed from a railroad stake. Stay tuned for more information. I am also open to running the program, Urban Scout: Awareness Games in Urban/Suburban Environments, if there is interest. If your child is interested, let me know. Stay tuned for details on this course.

Mary Margaret Sweeney, PhD has devoted almost 40 years to the study of learning and development. Her teaching career includes mentoring children and adults in primitive wilderness skills. Mary taught or worked with applied and theoretical psychology and
education at various colleges and corporations including the University of Connecticut, Western New England College, Prescott College, Naropa University and General Dynamics. Experiencing nature’s healing power inspired her to combine these career interests. Her passion is to role model connection to nature as a path to greater awareness. Mary’s service combines psychological theory with practice of primitive skills, hunting, fishing, energy work, and yoga. Mary lives and works in Colorado.
